PROFILE IN DETAIL
My Name's UN Nay (Somang). I was born in 1990 in Trobeat village, Somlanh commune, Angkor Chey district, Kampot province, Cambodia locating in Southeast Asia. There are 6 members in my family (parents, 2 elder brothers and a sister). My father died I was 3 months old and my mother followed him in the next 6 years.  (Life is a mission where preparation and hope have always existed)

The Early Stage of My Life
I was told that my father passed away when I was just only 3 months old. At that time, I knew nothing about what was happening to my family. I could only remember what my sister told me. She said, "My father has around-face, black curly hair, shape nose, grey skin, and kind of short. He has the heart of gold, friendly, hardworking, and high commitment. Being the headman of the village, most of the people respect and love him especially someone is helped by him". The thing was not going as what people want. By that time, there was a group of robbery entered my house and stole our properties include jewelry, money, and other valuable objects. There were around 6 robberies to whom reported as a people nearby the village. Even though there was no harm to anyone of my family, we lost almost everything we possessed. Consequently, my family became miserable.  As a widow, my mother had to sell some poultry for supporting our livings and she was working so hard to raise up. In this case, my mother played the role of the breadwinner after my father. Looking back at us, we were so young and brainless, and we only knew how to play and eat like other children in the village. As I still remember, I used to steal money from my mother to buy toys, candies, and cakes. Thinking back to this hardship, I really grateful to my mother for her unconditional love and care for us. Even she was a widow, she treated us very well both for a living and a study. My brothers and sister could attend school with emotional and physical support from her except me because I was too young at that time which couldn't allow me to attend school as my them. I could only cry, play, and ask for eating. Our lives moved on until my mother left us.

In 1996, The Sadness Year:

There was another worst year happening to my family again. I was only 6 years old yet I could remember everything. My mother had a heavy fewer; however, nobody knew until everything was too late. In the early morning, as usual, I got up and wanted something to eat. I woke up my mother, but she couldn't answer me and get up from the bed. I called my brothers and sister, so they came to see her. With this situation, we were so curious and shocked and we needed to do something to help her. I and my sister tried to do a message and gave fever medicine to her; meanwhile, one of my brothers went to ask our neighbors for help. The neighbors along with my family took her to the hospital yet we could not cue her on time. As a result, she passed away with my father and left us four at younger ages. Then we and neighbors celebrated Cambodian traditional funeral ceremony to wish her to rest in peace and stay in heaven. This sadness was not finished because we were young so we couldn't feed up ourselves. As I remember, my eldest brother was just 15 years old; while, I was only 6. Since we became an orphanage child, the headman, and authority in the village wanted us to live with other family or adopted parents. Therefore, we were sent to live in three different families in the village and my older sister went to live with one family in Phnom Penh. Our lives seemed to be funny and complicated as time went on and on. Being a young boy in another family was not easy in terms of psychology and physiology. Sometimes, I lived under discrimination from other members of the family. Some of my freedom and right was limited, and sometimes I needed to follow their orders. I lived under this pressure for 6 years until I couldn't stay any longer. Besides the pressure I received from them,  I was grateful for their kindness by allowing me to study as others. Life of being quietness appeared to me since then. It even appears as my personality now.

The Day of Remembering: 01/10, 1996
In 2002, The Pagoda Child's Life:
At last in 2002, I decided to leave that family and offered to live in the pagoda for a short period of time ( around one year and a half). Being a pagoda child, I needed to prepare breakfast for the monks in the pagoda in the morning and cleaned the pagoda campus. The monks loved and gave me some money for my studies. That year, I moved from my primary level to secondary education. Talking about my primary education, I still remembered my brightness time when my IQ was so high. I used to get #1 straight for 7 years from grade 1 until grade 7. All my primary school's teachers appreciated and praised me and told other students to follow my sample. I was so delighted and tried even harder for my studies. After finishing primary, I moved to study at Wat Angkorchey Secondary School, which is now has changed to Wat Angkorchey High School, located in Angkorchey district,  Kampot province, Cambodia. My study slightly dropped down as I was so busy preparing stuff for the monks and life supported. The road to school was also far from the pagoda. These were the reasons why my study dropped.

By the way, I was just a 12 years old boy, but I could earn a living by myself with some support from elder sister and pagoda. I spent a year living in pagoda before I decided to live alone as I thought that there was not good for me to be a  pagoda child. The reasons were that people would speak bad things about me, and I also had some property such as cows, jewelry, and land.  Therefore, I decided to build a small home in my inherited land where I used to live before, the land where my family used to live together when my parents still alive, by using some properties that my parents left for me.

The Lonely Life; The New Life:

I had one cow and jewelry as well as received some money from my sister which I could use to start my new life as a lonely boy. I began to raise up poultry as my business and to do farming as other villagers. My farm, as well as my poultry, grew so well that's why I could effort to pay for my study. I took some free time to study part-time classes with my friends. Most of the teachers and friends to whom I studied were a heart of gold to me. Some teachers even gave me a free class-no charge for tuition fee, for their courses, and some friends even helped me with my farming and poultry. At least three times per year that my friends helped me with my farm. This lonely life moved on about 2 years until I passed the secondary school to high school. It taught me lots of lessons and experiences about life. Life was a mixture of suffering and pleasure. Therefore, when it was suffering, we needed to struggle to move it fast, and when it was a pleasure, we needed to keep in a slow and long time.

Life is a mission
In 2005, The Clear Blue Sky:
After a rain, the sky began clear and fresh. The time of separation or division was no longer exist in my life. The lonely life was replaced by a lovely life. After three years of being alone, my elder brothers came to live with me. There was also the time that I moved from secondary school to high school. I and other students from the same village as me went to study at Samdech Chea Sim Angkorchey high school and it was a bit far I decided to stay in Penleour Pagoda. There were approximately two kilometers from pagoda to school and three kilometers from pagoda to Foreign Languages Centers where I could study English in my spare time. As I could remember, the gangsters as well as hooligans used to threaten me and some other pagoda's child for money and warned us not to continue our studying. Although they made us afraid, we never stopped as what they wanted us to do. We kept continuing our studies until they felt bored and stopped bothering us.

I spent three years over there. I kept all my pets and farms for my elder brothers. From sympathy, tolerance, and willingness to help younger brother to reach a goal, my older brothers supported me in everything for my study in high school. Once again, life was so funny to me. It was up and down. After slightly dropped when was in grade 8 during secondary school, I got better
from grade 9. I got a good grade for my study and as a result, I could study in a good class with good teachers and classmates. The freedom of life had emerged. From nothing in hand to worry-less of financial support.

Being a Debate's Committee
From that time, I was busy with my studies both at school and part-time class. This habit led me to another nickname called by some people "a busy man". Asides from official study hour from state-school, I also spent  3 hours per day to study English and another 3 hours for Math, Physic, and Chemistry. From Monday to Friday, I spent around 11-12 hours studied with teachers and 2-3 hours reviewed the lessons for the next class. Turning the attention back to the pagoda where I stayed, the monks and nuns who stayed in the pagoda loved me and supported me. They never blamed me, instead, they took me as a sample for their children. As my gratefulness to them, I managed to spend my spare time out of the study to teach English to the monks and children there. It lasted around two years, I kept doing these repeated actions without feeling tired at all.

2008, The First Step to Success:

Appreciation Certificate (CMU)
With my soul and tireless effort, I graduated in 2008 with a good grade which allowed me to gain a national scholarship from the Ministry of Education, Youths, and Sport to study at Cambodian Mekong University in the major of Teaching English as Foreign Languages, TEFL. In addition, I also passed a scholarship examination called, “National Scholarship Haruhisa Hunda Outstanding Students 2008” to study at the University of Cambodia in the major of business administration concentrating on human resource management, funded by Dr. Haruhisa Hunda. The sense of scholarship pushed and motivated me even deeper and stronger and thank both universities.
Award of Scholarship from UC
University's Life:
From 2008-2010, the title of a busy man didn't go far from me. The life changed from high school where all textbooks and teachers provided instruction in our national language to university where all the textbooks and instructions were conducted in English. Therefore, I needed to spend most of my time studying. The English textbooks, assignments, presentations, projects, home-works, exams, and so on required me to keep reading both printed and non-printed materials such as books, journals, articles, and lecturers'slides and also did more searching on the internet. Sometimes, I spent the whole night by just completing one assignment. There are three quotes for me, "I Love My Desk", "No Success without Hard-working and Discipline", " Life is a Mission Where Preparation and Hope are Always There". Almost every night, I went to sleep late because I was addicted to reading. Every month, there was always a new textbook that was brought to the room, especially related to leadership, management, and business. To be honest, I'm not good at mathematics or calculation although I used to be a smart student when I was in high school.
Friends (USA, France, and UK)

In addition, I fell asleep without realizing, sometimes. Because of late sleeping habit, my sister and brother-in-law advised me to reduce the length of time for studying. Besides studying, there was also one more challenging thing for me. As everyone knows that in Phnom Penh, where the life of people are civilized for the rich and the poor are survive for their livings, it's also challenging my life. In the same case to those poor people in the city, I did need a lot of money to pay for renting houses, foods, clothes, medicine, vehicle, as well as study materials. You might want to ask me a question, "Where do I take the money from if I do not work? Honestly, all the money I got from my elder sister at that time. She supported everything and I only needed to keep studying hard in order to maintain my scholarship for both universities. Luckily, there was no problem for me related to the score or GPA and morality in studying.

One Team, One Destination (University Life):
Winner of Debate Program at MOE
The awareness of many hands could make the fire or simply speaking more ideas were better than one, one team was created. On Friday, October 10, 2010, there was an agreement within ten qualified members (words used in an agreement by that time) and then expanded to 30 members under the slogan "One for All, All for One". This slogan meant that everyone in the team has to devote time, money, knowledge to the team, and the team will contribute back to everyone in it. The team was named as Your Excellent Students, YES. As the team, we need to have a clear mission, vision, objectives, strategies, and especially organizational structure which could lead to clear responsibility and authority. Therefore, I was appointed to be a standing leader after the team was created.

With my Russian and Chines Friends
As the team was getting bigger and bigger, we began to organize a meeting. There were more about 30 members were in the meeting. Then we declared for the selection of leader, vice-leaders, study facilitator, problem facilitator, and treasurer. Finally, I was elected as the official team leader. It was approved by a team leader as well as the team's adviser, Mr. Norng Sokha, Former Dean of Faculty of Arts, Humanities, and Foreign Languages in CMU. The first main purpose of the team was to help all team members improved their English language speaking ability by creating an environment where members needed to use English as the means of communication. The ability to use English had improved gradually within the team's members as well as other students. We believed in one slogan, "Practice make perfect."

My Graduation Day at CMU, B.TEFL
Additional to the study environment, the team also organized some study tours in which all members could strengthen their relationships and communications. YES as its name organized 3 trips. The first trip was Siem Reap under the title, " Way to Wonder Temples." The second was  Kampot province and Bokor mountain under the title, " Exploring the True Life of Nature." Finally, Kampong Som under the title, " The Way to Beautiful Sea." Even though we went for entertainment, yet we had strict rules and procedures to follow. The team prepared funny games and activities. Everyone got the souvenirs when they returned home. One more thing, everyone had to express their feelings about the trips and the team compiled those expressions and published as the book.

Working Life:
Former Boss and DV-Chancellor
In 2009, I started my work as a freelance assistant to the project manager at Pyramid Translation for a short period of time before I moved to work as the teacher of English. As an assistant to the project manager, I prepared printed documents, translated some documents, searched for more needed materials, as well as solved some technical problems happening inside my workplace. I received the satisfy paid for my work and I also satisfied with my manager, now he is a dean at BELTEI International University. I was really happy to work with him. In terms of motivation, I appreciated his motivation toward us. In early 2010, I was hired to be a part-time teacher of English at BrightLand International School. I didn't get well paid, but I felt happy with this new job. I loved teaching, especially the principle provided me the prefer coursebook, level of the book, and respectful and strong commitment students. Besides that, I also worked as a tutor of English at home. I needed to teach one stubborn and other respectful and smart students. The two were quite different. I spent nearly a year teaching them as I love children.

Regional Marketing Manager of Facebook
With these jobs, I just earned a small amount of money which I could not support my study and daily expenses. However, money could help me to cut down some expenses offered by my sister. From 2011-2012, I graduated from Cambodian Mekong University and followed by the University of Cambodia in the following year. I looked for a way to move forward to my bright future. I decided to resign from BrightLand International School and said goodbye to lovely students to whom I spent nearly two years with them. I set my vision, mission, and goal to go ahead. I would never look back to the past of suffering which I have encountered in children. I needed to build up my experiences and educations in order to fulfill my goal.

Warming from My Family Members
During my senior college, I used to be a team leader and active member University of Cambodia’s Student Senates (UCSS), and CMU’s Students Volunteer for Community (CSVC). Being a team leader and member, I used to help students to learn better as well as inspired them to take part in providing social services to various communities on family leadership, environment protection, and entrepreneurship skill, as well as conducting charity events to raise fund to help orphan, elderly, disable, and poor people. "Life is being shared", my mother said, when she was alive. As an orphanage child, helping others unfortunate children is my hobby and enjoyment. I actually don't want children to have misfortune as me and I do understand how hard it is to be homeless and orphanage.

My Graduation Day at UC

First Life as University Tutor:
The dream of being a part-time lecturer was not far. In 2012I decided to give up my previous job and started a career in a place where I spent four years already for my Bachelor's Degree. I decided to apply for the position of a university tutor. After testing and interviewing, I had a chance to be a tutor. It led me to enter other challenging environments, but I had never afraid to face it.
More than a tutoring, I was assigned to work as HR's Assistant to the Department of Human Resource Management. At the same time, I also started my Master Degrees in Business Administration (International Program). I had studied a master of education in leadership and administration, M.ed in LA; however, it was not fit with interests, so I decided to change after a semester. I needed to work 8 hours per day and 3 hours for my master's class. In 2013, a year after, my life began to have more free time although I still worked and studied. The first year with foreign lecturers from different countries especially France, and the difficult subjects, which mostly related to mathematics and calculation, put heavy pressure on me.

2nd Winner of Debate Program
Asides from the first year, the second year, there were some of my favorite courses were offered such as business courses, research courses, economic courses. I had more time for my family as well as entertain myself. However, I needed to take some time to review the lessons before class and spent some time to review lessons for my master's class. Life as a student and tutor were happening inside me. I began to clearly understand about lecturers' and students' minds. How difficult and easy they were. I tried to adapt myself to the situation. Two and a half years passed really quickly, and students live in class was over. It was time for independent study in which self-discipline was closely tied.

Bachelor of Education (TEFL)
In 2014, I finished my study in the Master Degrees of Business Administration Concentrating Management fom Cambodian Mekong University. I'm also pursuing a Master of Business Administration from  Assumption University, Thailand. More importantly, I was also promoted to be an instructor after performance appraisal and students' feedback.

New Land, New Experience:
I went to attend the Career Fair in Singapore for 5 days and 4 nights organized by some famous Japanese Companies. The main purpose of the fair was to select the best candidate across ASEAN countries to work for their companies. Either before and after the fair, we went around the country in order to understand the culture, the standard of living, environment, security, the nightlife, and the entertainment of Singaporean people. I noted some points about Singapore especially related to Better Life Expectancy.
    ASEAN Career Fair in Singapore
  • People mostly exercise: most people value cycling and walking exercise at least two times per day.
  • Clean environment. the government set up Green City Policy which means that the forest was reserved and developed as parks, and there were not many cars as people use public transportation such as buses, MRT, BTS, and taxis for their travelings.
  • Healthy foods and drinking: all kinds of alcohol were not allowed in working time; organic and hygiene food was served.
  • Entertainment: There were a lot of beautiful natural places and wonderful nightlife in which people could enjoy the fresh air and relax.
Bachelor of BBA in HRM
All that I have mentioned above are some of the reasons for pushing the life expectancy of Singaporean People last longer than other ASEAN Members.

In early 2015, I had decided to shift my career from the private sector to the public sector. My attended decision was to help Cambodian people increasing their styles of livings by inspiring them to involve in small business or family business. In the countryside, for instance, motivating them to plant vegetables, raise poultries, create local product or service, then advising them about quality improvement and like the market ( suppliers), and customers for them. All the mentioned responsibilities above are not easy tasks to do. I need education, skill, and commitment. Therefore, I need further education.

Chines, Indian, and Burmese Friends
In July 2015, I decided to further my education in Thailand in the field of international business. The curriculum was designed in both theory and real practice. Besides, in-class learning, students were assigned to observe real business practices both in Thailand and outside Thailand. I had been gone to Korea, Myanmar, and Lao for the program. Even in Thailand, I had a chance to visit many well-known companies such as CP, TPT, Ichitan, and Makro, just several listed. The experience of various professors and classmates from diverse backgrounds and countries was also a plus for me to learn and share my understanding with them.

Just a month later, after landed in Thailand,  AIESEC in Thailand called for the application to attend its program. That was an enjoyment movement and remarkable for me, which was called, "Youth Speaking Forum in 2015" based in Thailand.

Youth in Speaking Forum in Thailand
The Forum was organized by AIESEC at Bangkok University, Thailand. There were 32 different AIESEC members from different countries including Cambodia as well. There were the greatest opportunities to listen to the divers of ideas of youth from diversity. The closed interaction between the speakers and participants was also the greatest chance that allowed my voice to be heard by the audiences. After a round table discussion finished, I was assigned to work with a small group of youths and three mentors, approximately 25 youths. The mentors asked the youth to share their concerned with employability. The discussion took us around 25 minutes to finish and I was selected by my group members to give a presentation about our projects. The presentation was only 5 minutes long.

Responding to the concern between the gap of education and employability, we suggested one project which was called GLOBAL ENTREPRENEURSHIP PROJECT (GEP).

Young Entrepreneurs in Thailand
I started to present this project by firstly introducing the problem statement. Initially, I began my presentation by, “The unemployment rate still stands in the huge number although the number of students enrolled in education is increasing especially for those developing or less developed countries. It is represented that only the quality tertiary education and work-based learning which can play as the key tool to reduce unemployment.” There were some gaps between students and universities to comply with the job market raised up. Those were presented as below:
  • Mismatches between degree and job market
  • Some graduate students have the insufficient skill to work for the job requirements
  • There are not enough relevant technical and vocational skills for undergraduate students
  • The lack of information related to market trends as well as the availability of a job in the market.
To answer the concern above, I made the audience aware by saying this sentence, “The best solution for a problem is training them with the right skills to the current job market or let them create a job on their own.”
ASEAN and Japan Youths for Exchange Program
Because the time was so short at that time, all youths could only present illustrate their brief concept, framework, timeline, and structure of the project. This project, I mainly focused on the youths who have no chance to attend a school or the high school and university students whether in pursuing or graduated. I started to introduce some of the activities and timeline to other group members by starting my statement below.

Social Entrepreneurs Sharing Program
Activities: First of all, designing a special curriculum about entrepreneurial, presentation, and technology skills for students, and ask them to initiate one business idea and develop to the business plan. Secondly, arranging students to visit various business types both in Asia and EUROPE to broaden their perspective about the business operation and culture in those countries. Then, inviting Business Start-ups Company to provide a lecture on how to start up a business. Similarly, inviting successful entrepreneurs to share their own experiences with the students. Finally, inviting both private and public sectors for making a corporation in a business plan competition program.

PROJECT TIMELINE: the project should be started in June or August.
  • 1st week: presentation and technology skill
  •  2nd week: entrepreneurship skill
  • 3rd week of practical training on developing business canvas and business plan
  • 4th & 5th week: global business learning experience
  • 6th week: lecturer on business start-up and successful entrepreneurs sharing experience forum.
  • 7th week: business plan competition and public corporation
  • 8th week: follow up between individual students with a mentor”
With Young Business Founder and Owners
Finally, I closed my presentation by providing these statements, “Students and youth can have two main positive impacts. The first one, they can improve their employability through work placements and work-based learning as they have to attend the real business environment and culture. They can select a company or area of a company that they want to learn from. The second perspective, students and youths can cultivate their entrepreneurship, presentation and technologies skills. They also can learn from the really successful entrepreneurs, how to start up business, and especially have a chance to show their potential and building network with business owners.”

Similarly, I had attended some international training programs and workshops during the years. I met some international speakers on different topics, "Doing Business in Digital Era". Then global competition on "Innovation Driven Entrepreneurs (IDE)"; spectrum on, "Think Big, Act Small."; 43rd Ship for Southeast Asian and Japanese Youth Programme, Regional Social Entrepreneurs, Mobility and Safety of Immigrants, and Middle Income County in a Trap: how middle-income countries in the Asia Pacific move out from middle income to high-income countries.  Those international events help to upgrade my knowledge of the world as well as my field of interest.

With President of UTCC
In 2016, I finished my study courses from the University of the Thai Chamber of Commerce but I was not graduated yet. However, in that year, I graduated from Cambodian Mekong University for my master of General Management. That year, I was a time for me to start writing my thesis. I have six months to finish or complete the whole thesis. I needed to produce three presentations, one completed thesis book both in hard and soft copy, international journal acceptance, and international conference presentation. Hearing the word thesis, I think it doesn't sound good for most of the students because they need to read hundreds of books, journals, and other printed or unprinted sources in order to have enough information and data to write. I did have the same challenges as them. Within those 6 months, I was tough for me, and sometimes I even couldn't sleep a whole night. However, everything was finished accordingly and passed my thesis defense and abled to publish my thesis by then.

In November 2017,  I returned back to Cambodia to start my job as assistant to the OVOP general Secretariat at Council of Ministers, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.  Being an assistant, I was happy to learn from a generous, cheerful, and supportive boss. I love his leadership roles and how he treated all his followers. I was assigned to do some responsibilities including check and revise the OVOP policy, assist OVOP internal and external meetings, produce report minutes of the meeting, assist the OVOP exhibition, facilitate the OVOP meeting, and other administrative tasks. I felt valued with the people and the workplace where I work. However, I was not satisfied with the salary which I received.   I had decided to stop there to find a better-paid job before my boss advised me not to resign. Consequently, I decided to stay, yet manage to find a part-time job to do which I could earn extra paid.
Master of International Business, UTCC

From early 2018, I began my new job as a part-time lecturer for three private universities, BELTEI International University, Cambodian International University, and ACLEDA Institute of Business. I was assigned to teach different subjects according to their programs. Being a lecturer, I felt appreciated and valued. I was delighted to be surrounded by friendly and respectful students. They were not just my students but my teachers as well. I shared with them about lessons in class and they shared the real lesson in life. Besides, I also started to teach IELTS preparation course to students from BELTEI International School. I have satisfied with what I have offered to me so far. Thank BELTEI and THANK H.E DR.

In 2019, I made three big decisions in my life. The first one was to enter a relationship. It was such fun as love began in where I worked. I started to have a special feeling with one of my ......and she did the same way to me. Therefore, we decided to let our family from both sides know about this.  I and family went to meet her at her parents' house at SP province. Both families didn’t reject our relationship, but they wanted us to learn more personally from each other. Until now, we haven't got any official event together yet, for example, engagement, yet both families agreed to arrange our married together. Another big decision I have made was that I decided to buy a new house for myself. The house wasn't really cheap nor near my workplace. Thus why did I buy? The answer would be simple but I want to keep it as privacy or personal reason. Anyway, it was my first big investment. Last but not least, I decided to start another new job offered by the Office of Council of Ministers. This new job offered me new opportunities to meet new people, new responsibilities, and new knowledge. Life is about the instability that why I choose to be upgrading rather than down-grading.

In 2020,  I decided to pursue my Ph.D. in Business Administration program to fulfill my academic dream. First year of this program, I received only 50% scholarship from H.E Dr. Ly Cheng. This 50% scholarship policy is applied to all faculty members and staff who wish to continue their studies with BELTEI International University. However, if they are management team, they will be granted 100%. Regarding to this policy, I am one of the lucky students who granted 100% scholarship from H.E Dr. from second year of this program until graduation.

2021, I and my family decided to open a restaurant called, " FoodStation". It was one of our new challenges for us as our family has never experienced any kind of business running.

The Gratitude, The Thankfulness:
My special thanks to parents who gave me the birth and raised me up until I was six. Also, my respectful thanks to my elder brothers and sister who have looked after me since the parents had left us.
